Hypnotherapy

What is hypnosis?
It is the use of a hypnotic trance (an altered state of awareness) to help bring about desired changes.

Can anyone be hypnotised?
The vast majority of people can. It is mainly a question of a person’s willingness to work with the Hypnotherapist to achieve the results that they want. If you want to be hypnotised it is important that you do not try to do anything, rather that you just let yourself feel naturally how you want to be.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
It feels relaxing. You just feel as if you are relaxing in a very comfortable space with your eyes closed. It is a pleasant state of deep inner calm and physical relaxation. You can hear everything – the voice of the Hypnotherapist, the sounds outside the building.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?
The first session will start with the Hypnotherapist gathering information about you and your problem. The Hypnotherapist will then establish exactly what changes you want in your life, focusing on the positive rather than the negative. The Hypnotherapist will then induce a trance which will involve using words, a soothing tone, mental imagery and various other techniques such as deep breathing, to induce a pleasant, lethargic state to begin with.
Next the Hypnotherapist will use a variety of techniques to bring about the changes you want. Finally, you will be brought out of the trance.

Will I be asleep or unconscious during hypnosis?
Neither. Rather you should think of a trance as having the relaxation of a good sleep with the mental alertness of being wide awake.

Are there side effects?
You will be pleased to know that there are no side effects.

Can you make me do things against my will?
Absolutely not. You will retain a sense of what you want to do and what you don’t want to do. This is not stage hypnosis. You won’t end up dancing around like a chicken.

Can a Hypnotherapist control my mind?
No. You will remain in control. Hypnosis is a voluntary state that cannot be forced upon you. If at any stage you want to end the session you will be perfectly able to.

What can it help with?

A wide variety of things such as fears; phobias; smoking; weight management; IBS, anxieties; sports and performance enhancement; insomnia; stress; pain management.
